Manchester City booked a place in the semi-final at Wembley after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Newcastle in the FA Cup Quarter Finals.
Goals from star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and English winger Raheem Sterling were enough to see off a very defensive Steve Bruce side
Below is how we rate the players.
Claudio Bravo: 7
The City goalie had a quiet night. He made just one save the entire 90 minutes as he was undisturbed.
Kyle Walker: 7
While the full-back had little to do defensively against a very compact Magpies side, he was effective in attack and was a threat down the right. Joao Cancelo replaced him after he picked up a knock in the second half.
Aymeric Laporte: 7
The Frenchman was solid defensively as he held his ground in defending a physical Andy Carroll. He came close to grabbing a goal but his header was just a whisker wide of the post.
Nicolas Otamendi: 6
The Argentine almost gifted Newcastle a goal in the 65th minute. His attempted pass was intercepted by Saint-Maximin and squared to Dwight Gayle. He would be relieved, however, after Gayle failed to simply tuck the ball away.
Benjamin Mendy: 7
Posed a serious threat to the Newcastle defence as he regularly found space with his overlapping runs. He sent in a series of crosses, but most of them failed to find its target.
Ilkay Gundogan: 8
MOTM performance from the German International. Pulling the strings in the heart of the midfield, frequently dictating the pace and flow of play for his teammates.
David Silva: 7
Silva slotted himself between the Magpies defence and midfield line and was able to disturb Steve Bruce’s men. His work-rate and passing were highlights of his game.
Kevin De Bruyne: 8
A spectacular performance from the Belgian International as he once again failed to put a foot wrong. He opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a well-placed penalty to the bottom corner. His defensive capabilities were also highlighted as he kept Newcastle’s Saint-Maximin at bay.
Raheem Sterling: 7
A classy performance, as he was ever-present in attack and constantly giving the Magpies’ right back a cause for worry. Sterling capped off a solid display by grabbing the second goal of the Night for the Citizens.
Gabriel Jesus: 6
Could have scored a goal or two in the game but he failed to get a convincing attempt on goal. He did, however, win the penalty that broke the deadlock.
Riyad Mahrez: 7
He had a few shots on goal but was unable to hit the target and ultimately on the score sheet. Overall, his work-rate and passing were vital as City looked to break a very compact Newcastle defence.
Substitutes
Bernardo Silva: 6
The Portuguese put in a decent shift after coming on with excellent passing and link-up play.
Phil Foden: 7
Foden continued with his superb form since Project Restart. Barely five minutes into the game, the teenage sensation dished out the assist to Raheem Sterling’s goal. He could have gotten on the scoresheet himself, but his attempt dragged wide.
Rodri: 6
He was decent after coming on as he provided more defensive solidity.
Joao Cancelo
No telling Contribution.
This win means Manchester City would face Arsenal in the FA Cup semifinals on the 19th of July.
