Manchester City could be on the verge of signing Napoli beast Kalidou Koulibaly if rumours are to be believed and the Italians are really keen on signing Victor Osimhen for €81million.
This is, of course, pure speculation based on a few things I believe to be true.
The first reason for me to believe that Napoli are ready to sell Koulibaly is the story going around that they’re on the verge of signing Lille attacker Osimhen for a whopping €81million.
Typically, Napoli prefer to buy small and sell big and the Nigerian forward simply doesn’t fall in line with the Calcio A side’s past in the transfer market.
What’s more is that Manchester City have been, somewhat controversially, cleared of almost all wrongdoing in their lawsuit against UEFA, with the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling that the Mancunian’s should not be barred from the Champions League.
This means that Pep Guardiola can resume business as usual in the transfer market and get to work in his mission to close the 20+ point gap that Liverpool explosively opened this season.
Jurgen Klopp seems unlikely to bolster his squad for a number of reasons and the Reds’ standing still might hand the initiative to Manchester City next season.
As Virgil van Dijk’s move to Liverpool proved, having a top-class central defender is crucial to success in the Premier League.
Signing Koulibaly will be a big step towards competing with the Reds and although the 29-year-old would cost a lot, there is no doubt that Man City can afford him.
