Manchester City defender John Stones has been linked with a summer transfer to Arsenal or Tottenham and he now has a difficult decision to make.
It’s the summer of 2018, and everything is going right for John Stones.
He’s just helped Manchester City win the Premier League title in record-breaking fashion, and now he’s scoring at the World Cup for an England team that have captivated the nation. He will return to City and win another Premier League title, with arguably the most important kick of the campaign coming through his incredible goalline clearance against Liverpool.
Stones’ career only looked like going one way, with a regular place in the heart of City’s defence to replace Vincent Kompany not out of the question.
Now, though, the £50m man finds himself on the fringes for club and country, and rumours are spreading that he could be set to leave the Etihad this summer after a disappointing season.
This week, Stones has been linked with a transfer to North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham – moves which would have seemed completely out of the question two years ago but would both make sense for all parties if they were to materialise this summer.
