Ake took to the club’s website to talk about his delight at joining Pep’s side. Ake told the club: “Coming here is a dream for me. This is a top side full of world-class players. Everywhere you look in this squad there are big names with international pedigree.

“Pep is a manager admired across the world – what he’s done in the game speaks for itself. The success he’s had is unbelievable and the style of football he plays really appeals to me.

“I know I’m going to have to work hard to get into the side, but that’s what I’m here to do. I’ll do whatever I can to make an impact and help the team win silverware.”

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain spoke highly of their latest addition to the City squad. Telling club website: “He’s strong and quick, and we feel he has the technical and intellectual attributes needed to excel in Pep’s setup.”

The main question now will be is Nathan Ake the right man to replace club hero Vincent Kompany?

It has been clear to see how much City have missed their former captain. With Laporte spending most of the season, on the sidelines, Pep’s side have looked vulnerable.

Impressively, this season’s stats show that Ake has kept more clean sheets (four) than both John Stones and Laporte (three each). Despite playing in a squad with lesser quality than his new side, Ake was arguably Bournemouth shining light this season.

Surprisingly, Ake has performed slightly better than some of City’s current defenders. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED BY SKY SPORTS.

With that in mind, for just £41 million and a wealth of Premier League experience could Nathan Ake be the man to help win back the title?
